How to choose
- The price of the initial assessment and of follow-up sessions.
- Whether the clinic treats your problem: sport, back pain, women's health, paediatrics, neurological or post-surgery rehab.
- Whether your insurer is accepted for direct claims.
- Opening hours, including early, late and weekend appointments.
- Whether treatment includes an exercise plan, and whether the clinic has a gym or studio on site.
Physiotherapists treat back and neck pain, sports injuries, joint problems and recovery after surgery, and many also run rehab Pilates, running assessments and exercise classes. In Ireland physiotherapists work privately and through hospital services, and private clinics are listed here.
An initial assessment is usually the longest and most expensive appointment. Follow-ups are shorter and cost less. Many health insurers pay part of the cost of private physiotherapy, so check your policy before you book.
Questions people ask
Do I need a GP referral to see a physiotherapist in Ireland?
No. You can book directly with most private physiotherapists. Some insurers ask for a referral for certain claims, so check your policy.
How much is a physiotherapy appointment in south Dublin and north Wicklow?
Prices differ by clinic and by whether it is an initial assessment or a follow-up. We show the prices each clinic publishes, with the date we last checked.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem. A physiotherapist will usually give you an estimate after the initial assessment.
Can I claim physiotherapy on health insurance?
Many Irish policies cover part of the cost of outpatient physiotherapy. Check your plan's limits, and whether the clinic is recognised by your insurer.
